Renowned chef and restaurateur David Wilhelm has recently acquired Cedar Creek Inn, a beloved establishment located in San Juan Capistrano's historic Mission Promenade. With plans for a remodel and relaunch as Tavern at the Mission early next year, Wilhelm has already begun revamping the menus and enhancing the dining experience at this iconic location.
Wilhelm, a longtime resident of San Juan Capistrano, entered into a purchase agreement for Cedar Creek Inn with his business partner Gregg Solomon in November 2022. While the duo has exciting renovations in store, they are committed to preserving the venue's historical integrity and old-town charm. The remodeled space will feature changes to the dining rooms and bar, along with an expanded outdoor patio that will offer live music for guests to enjoy.
Having opened numerous successful concepts over the past four decades, including Jimmy's Famous American Tavern and Tavern House Kitchen & Bar, Wilhelm is a highly respected figure in the Orange County culinary scene. At Cedar Creek Inn, guests can now savor Wilhelm's popular New American cuisine and comfort food classics, paying homage to his culinary journey.
The revamped menus showcase Wilhelm's greatest hits, highlighting his expertise in French and Southwestern flavors. Mouthwatering appetizers such as the Onion Soup with thyme and AOP Gruyere and the Santa Fe Caesar Salad with green chile dressing, salsa fresca, and avocado will tempt diners. Hearty entrees like the Honey-Buttermilk Fried Chicken with mashed potatoes and Blue Lake green beans, and the Tequila Shrimp Pasta with poblano chile cream, will satisfy any craving.
Tavern at the Mission's menu will draw inspiration from California's multicultural history, incorporating Mexican, Spanish, and European influences. Wilhelm's signature Southwestern creations, including the Maine Lobster and Corn Crepe 'Burrito' with chipotle cream sauce, will be featured alongside Cedar Creek Inn's beloved favorites such as the Monte Cristo Sandwich and Coconut Cake.
In addition to the delectable food offerings, Tavern at the Mission will boast an impressive libations program. Guests can indulge in elegant martinis, handcrafted margaritas, and specialty seasonal craft cocktails. The restaurant will also host holiday events and offer special menus for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, and brunch on New Year's Day.
Cedar Creek Inn, soon to be Tavern at the Mission, is located at 26860 Old Mission Road in San Juan Capistrano. The restaurant will be open Monday through Saturday for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., dinner from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and brunch on Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Stay updated on the latest news and offerings from Tavern House Kitchen & Bar and Tavern at the Mission by visiting their website and following @TavernHouseKB on Instagram.
